Professional Accreditation

COAPRTCHEA

Our undergraduate major in Recreation is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COAPRT). COAPRT is, in turn, accredited by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

COAPRT standard 2.05.05 requires reporting of aggregated results of learning outcomes assessment and other evidence of program academic quality. Results for the most recent academic year (AY 2012-2013) follow:

  • Student performance on learning outcomes embracing all three COAPRT standards exceeded achievement targets by an average of 10.28%
  • Intern performance evaluation results met high achievement target levels. One hundred percent of our students scored 4.5 or higher (5 point scale) on an overall performance rating by the working professionals who supervised our interns, and 100% of our students earned a passing grade in the internship class.
  • The average student rating of the quality of instruction in our undergraduate classes was 4.54 on a 5-point scale.
  • Undergraduate students are mentored by senior faculty and obtain advising and course scheduling support via a professionally staffed advisement center.

Important Information Regarding Degree Mills

Please watch this important video regarding degree and accreditation mills.

According to CHEA, “Degree mills and accreditation mills mislead and harm. In the United States, degrees and certificates from mills may not be acknowledged by other institutions when students seek to transfer or go to graduate school. Employers may not acknowledge degrees and certificates from degree mills when providing tuition assistance for continuing education. “Accreditation” from an accreditation mill can mislead students and the public about the quality of an institution. In the presence of degree mills and accreditation mills, students may spend a good deal of money and receive neither an education nor a useable credential.”
