The Post-Master of Science in Nursing (post-MSN) Certificates offer the opportunity to augment the MSN degree previously earned with an additional nursing specialty area. The coursework for these certificates is dependent on the coursework that was completed in your previous master’s degree. A gap analysis must be performed by the graduate program director to create an individualized program of study. For the FNP and PMHNP Certificate Programs you must have a MSN or higher degree and currently hold national certification in one of the following advance practice registered nurse (APRN) specialties:
- Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
- Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)
- Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
- Geriatric-Adult Nurse Practitioner (GANP)
- Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP)
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
- Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHCNP)
Upon acceptance into the program, students will need to apply and obtain a Georgia registered nurse license and arrange for clinical preceptors within 250 miles of Georgia Southern University.
Upon completing the Post-MSN FNP or PMHNP Certificate curriculum, you will be fully prepared for educational eligibility for certification in your given area of study. At this juncture, you can leave the program with your Post-Master’s Certificate or apply for admission to the post-MSN/APRN to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. The purpose of our DNP program is to prepare advanced practice nurses and leaders to evaluate and improve primary health care. Our ultimate goal is to improve health care and the health of populations and individuals, with a special focus on rural and underserved communities.
If you are thinking about completing your DNP degree while pursuing a post-MSN/APRN certificate, Georgia Southern University offers the option to complete a program of study in the Post-MSN Certificate only path, or the post-MSN to DNP with the additional specialty FNP, PMHNP or Nurse Educator courses as cognate electives (see Post-MSN- DNP).
Graduates of other types of MSN programs may apply for transfer credit into the Post-BSN-DNP with MSN Opt-Out Program in either the FNP or PMHNP Track, but are not eligible for the FNP or PMHNP Post Master Certificates or the Post-MSN- DNP programs. However, you are eligible for the:
